Katarina Wit began skating at five years old. When her talent for skating began to show her admission was granted at an Karl-Marx-Stadt school that is geared towards kids with a sporty aptitude. The school where she was enrolled, she was introduced to their teacher Jutta Muler. Witt became a star in 1982, after she was second in her first World Championships at Copenhagen. After that, she began dominating the sport with elegance and grace. Olympic Erfolg At the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for figure skating in women's in a highly competitive contest. After four years, the event, she was able to claim an additional competitive race. Actually, she was not a winner in the contest for free skating, however, she was awarded gold for her performance during the mandatory short and figure programme. Witt is the first figure skater female to win this event two times since Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame Witt was allowed to resume skating after her success in the film industry as an actor. She competed in Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. While she did not get a single medal she delighted fans with the fact that she finished seventh. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
